Bart is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has been in practice since 1995. He holds both a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from Washington College of Law.
Bart began his counseling career as a therapist at The Women’s Center in Vienna, Virginia. While at the Women's Center Bart developed an Anger Management Program that was endorsed by the Fairfax County Courts; counseling repeat offenders about strategies for developing healthy anger and anger management skills. In addition to Bart's practice, he provides clinical supervision to both graduate students and licensee candidates and has been an adjunct professor of psychology at Marymount University.
Bart draws upon an eclectic theoretical approach with an emphasis on cognitive theory and therapy because of the demonstrated effectiveness with depression, anxiety, anger management, conflict resolution and couples counseling. Bart works with adolescents, adults, couples and families. Due to his uncommon combination of credentials and training, Bart provides a unique approach to couples counseling when individuals have determined that separation and divorce are likely. Bart provides “Therapeutic Mediation”, a term he has coined to help couples reduce the suffering associated with separation and divorce. Bart also provides co-parenting counseling for separated and divorced couples.
Bart's approach is not a traditional "50 minute" session. He makes himself available to his clientèle through flexible scheduling and access through email, phone and skype.
